Ebay and PayPal have long been an almost exclusive couple. But now Ebay is looking for other partners and will cooperate even more closely with Klarna in the future. Customers are offered new and flexible payment methods.
Klarna is developing into an increasingly strong competitor to PayPal in Germany. The Swedish financial service provider can now be used to make payments in numerous services. Ebay will also rely more on Klarna in the future, as the platform has officially announced.
Installment purchase and purchase on account come to Ebay
As the auction house announced, they want to offer customers an even larger selection of payment methods in the future. Therefore, Ebay, together with Klarna, will gradually introduce “purchase on account” and “hire purchase” over the coming weeks. Both offers will initially be available to selected dealers as part of a test run. In the course of the year, however, they want to expand the payment methods to the entire platform, according to Ebay.
The purchase on installments and on account complements the existing payment methods, which also includes the Sofortüberweisung already offered by Klarna. Ebay will therefore continue to offer payment via PayPal, as well as payment via credit or debit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Retailers usually decide for themselves which individual payment options are available to their customers. However, payment by installments and purchase on account were an explicit wish of the customers, which Klarna and Ebay are now implementing.

Ebay and Klarna respond to customer requests
“We are in constant contact with buyers on Ebay and include their wishes in the design of our platform. That is why we are pleased about the new strategic partnership with Klarna. It allows us to offer two additional payment options that German buyers want to use,” said Oliver Klinck, Vice President at Ebay Germany.
Klarna and Ebay emphasize the flexibility and control that customers will have through the strategic partnership in the future. At the same time, the financial service provider is likely to gain a number of new customers through its partner Ebay.
