Eavesdropping equipment has been found in an office of the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, Valery Zaluzhny. This was reported by the Ukrainian secret service and has now been confirmed by Zaluzhny himself. The discovery was made yesterday.
The Secret Service insists that the equipment was not found in Zaluzhnyi’s headquarters, but in “a room he can use to work.” “According to preliminary data, the device was not turned on. “No means have been found to collect information or transmit audio recordings remotely,” it said. Criminal proceedings have been opened.
“I work in different places,” Zaluzhnyj told the Ukrainian news agency ‘RBC’ today. “The tap was found at one of those locations. I hadn’t been there in a long time, but I planned to go there today. Yesterday they checked the room and found the device.”
Check
Several Ukrainian media report that more listening devices have been found on other employees of the General Staff, something Zaluzhny confirms. A previous check turned up nothing. The origin of the equipment components could not be traced.
It is not the first incident that the army chief has been confronted with in recent months. On November 7, his assistant was killed in an explosion near Kiev. According to official sources, Hennady Shastyakov was careless with a grenade he had received as a birthday present from a colleague.
Hair in butter
In recent months, several reports have emerged that there is a serious beef between Zaluzhny and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Zelensky is said to be bothered by Zaluzhny’s popularity and the fact that he says in interviews that there is an impasse at the front. Government representatives deny that there is a conflict.
