Egg hunts in the sun, straight plumes of smoke from the Easter fires on Easter Monday and inclement conditions from the end of the afternoon on Easter Monday. The Easter weekend starts nicely in Drenthe, but lovers of Easter bonfires should bring an umbrella on Monday.
After weeks in which it was relatively cool, temperatures will increase this weekend. That makes Saturday a wonderful day to prune the garden and bring the prunings to an Easter bump in the area.
Where in the Netherlands the Easter fires are lit on Easter Monday and Easter Monday, this is already the case on Saturday evening in Germany, Denmark and southern Sweden. But according to RTV Drenthe weatherman Hans Nienhuis, we will hardly be bothered by the smoke this year and we will not smell much of it a day later.
“The wind is weak in the evening and comes from the east and northeast. The Danish smoke will be blown up into the North Sea, the German smoke will rise high into the air. Anyway, if an Easter fire is lit in Schöningsdorf, then you will be able to notice this just across the border,” he says.
Easter Sunday will be a wonderful day. Sun and cumulus clouds alternate and the temperature rises to about 15 degrees.
“It will be great weather to do something outside,” predicts Nienhuis. “In the evening the wind is weak and that means that the smoke from the Easter fires goes almost straight into the air. Moreover, it does not cool down so quickly.”
A day later, on Easter Monday, the weather changes. It doesn’t get cold, on the contrary. The temperature can rise to over 16 degrees. “The day starts quite sunny with some high clouds,” says the weatherman. “During the course of the day, the clouds will thicken and showers may fall in the afternoon. Moreover, the wind will become stronger.”
This leads to a bleak evening, with moderate to fairly strong wind and rain. But Nienhuis sees an advantage: “Even in these weather conditions we will not experience any problems with smoke.”
