Easter weekend at the campsite: ‘Cold, but you’ll have fun’

The Easter weekend is just around the corner, which means that the campsites in Brabant will be very busy. According to industry association Recron, no less than ninety percent of all accommodations in our province are fully booked. On Friday, despite the drizzly weather, the tents are already set up in many places.

Camping De Heimolen in Baarle-Nassau is completely full this weekend. Friday afternoon the last dots were put on the i. While a large bouncy castle for children is still being inflated, a few regular visitors are already ready for it.

“I’ve been looking forward to this for a long time,” says a woman who has decorated the awning of her caravan with Easter eggs and Easter bunnies. She will soon hide the Easter eggs from the children. “It’s a bit cold, but okay. It’s cozy and the children don’t suffer from the cold. I just wear a fleece jacket and a scarf and then it can’t be broken anymore, right?”

A little further on, a couple is sitting in front of the caravan. They have been at the campsite since last week. “We are enjoying the start of the season so much,” says the man. Both are dressed in a thick sweater. “We always call this cramp weather,” jokes the woman. “But we don’t suffer from the cold, not even at night.”

“Everything was full.”

It is also busy on Friday at De Paal campsite in Bergeijk. There is a small queue of holidaymakers in front of the entrance who want to enter the site with their caravan. At the campsite, guests are busy setting up the tents.

“It’s going to be a nice Easter weekend,” says a man as he hammers the last pegs of the awning into the ground. “A little bit of rain doesn’t stop us, we enjoy life,” he laughs. It was still exciting whether he and his wife could camp this weekend. “It is extremely busy everywhere. We called several campsites, but everything was full. Fortunately, we were able to get a spot here,” says the woman.

“When the kids are on vacation, so are the parents.”

At another tent, a man is busy with a pump at his caravan. “It takes a while to work and sweat and then we can enjoy ourselves,” he says. He and his family have been coming to this campsite for years. “Every time it is busier and busier. We come from Belgium and the children always have the feeling of holiday here. We don’t have to go very far for that. And when the children are on holiday, the parents are too.”

A little further on, another family is completely ready. While enjoying a drink and some Dutch music, two women play a game. “It’s nice to enjoy it,” says the man. “The weather is a bit less, but you always have fun at the campsite. You have to make something of it yourself.” He already secured his spot here last year. “Usually we book a year in advance for Easter. Then you know for sure that you have a spot.”
