Easter fires are burning in these places in Drenthe

Easter bumps were mainly ignited at farms, but the organization now goes more often per hamlet or village. Characteristic is the run-up to the moment when the fire goes into the bumps. People are often allowed to help build on their own with pallets, branches or sometimes entire trees.

One of the most famous Easter fires in the Netherlands is the one in the Overijssel village of Espelo. The town has only a few hundred inhabitants, but sometimes makes it a competition to build the highest hump in the Netherlands. In 2012, the village set a record in the Guinness Book of Records with an ‘Easter mountain’ of 45.98 meters. Tens of thousands of spectators witnessed this.
