Sun-Mi Hong Quartet
The Sun-Mi Hong Quartet, led by jazz drummer Sun-Mi Hong, will perform on Wednesday at Brouwerij Martinus. The quartet will play pieces from Sun-Mi Hong’s latest album ‘Resonance’. This evening marks the start of the jazz autumn in Groningen. The Sun-Mi Hong Quartet is an award-winning ensemble known for pushing musical boundaries. Although they are firmly rooted in the jazz tradition, they also regularly dare to explore the avant-garde.
Their album A Self-Strength Portrait was awarded an Edison two years ago. The band recently released their third album Third Page: Resonance out at ZenneZ records. In addition to drummer Sun-Mi Hong, the quartet consists of Nicolò Ricci on tenor saxophone, Alistair Payne on trumpet, Chaerin Im on piano and Alessandro Fongaro on bass. Soundtracks and film with Red Limo Quartet
The Red Limo Quartet, a string quartet known for its unique sound is now finally in the spotlight. After more than fifteen years of playing together with big names from home and abroad, they now have their own theater tour Red Limo Quartet, an offbeat Movie Night .
The quartet has built up an impressive resume, from performances with the Kyteman Orchestra on major stages in the Netherlands to playing as a backing quartet for world star Eddie Vedder during his solo world tour. They even opened for The Who at Wembley Stadium in London. During their show you will hear well-known soundtracks and original pieces in a soundtrack and movie score vibe.

Tangarine delves into pop history
What do Bee Gees, Oasis, The Jackson 5 and Tangarine have in common? They are all brothers who make/made music together and are on stage. What is it like working with your family? The Tangarine twins perform at Ogterop in Meppel on Friday a sneak peek into the acoustic program Running in the Family .
Arnout and Sander Brinks perform the most beautiful songs from music-making families from more than sixty years of pop history, such as The Beach Boys, The Kinks, The Everly Brothers and the aforementioned bands. The folk duo released the album this year Blank Cassette out, where, among other things, the singles Big Star, City to the Country and The World We Live to be heard. On Sunday the duo also plays in Noordlaren in the Bartholomeus Church.

Early James plays bluegrass and alt-country
Early James will be in cultural café De Amer in Amen on Friday. Hailing from Birmingham, Alabama, this artist has years of experience in composing and performing and has been influenced by various musical styles, such as bluegrass, folk and alt-country. His inspirations range from Hank Williams Sr. to grunge and alternative rock bands such as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden and Nirvana.
Early James is often compared to Tom Waits and calls this musician a great source of inspiration, together with Fiona Apple. His lyrics are dark and have a sardonic sense of humor. They deal with themes such as depression, addiction and relationships. His voice is described as “tattered and nervous, with a grainy tremor.”

William Byrd by the Margaretha Consort
In honor of Byrd Year, which commemorates the 400th anniversary of William Byrd’s death, the Margaretha Consort pays an intimate tribute to this “Father of Musick” from England. On Friday, tenor Kevin Skelton and the consort’s gamba players will be brought together for a performance of Byrd’s work.
The concert takes place in Museum Vosbergen. For enthusiasts, a combination ticket is also available, with which you can listen to the Hortus Duo on September 24 at 11 for a total amount of only 30 euros. The doors open at 7:30 PM.

In this workshop you will have the opportunity to experience for yourself how you would paint a certain Bible story. You choose which parts of the story you want to capture and give it a personal touch. It doesn’t matter whether you can draw well or not, what matters is your personal choice and interpretation.
You will also have the opportunity to see on a TV screen how painters from different times and cultures use the same Bible stories have depicted. This will give you inspiration and help you think about how you would portray the story. Rolder Concerten opens the season with a striking concert in which the young natural horn player Emmanuel Frankenberg takes the listener through the beautiful quintets for pianoforte and wind instruments by Mozart and Beethoven. He does this with four musicians on authentic instruments. Emmanuel grew up in a family of Baroque musicians and graduated cum laude for both harpsichord and natural horn. Fellow musicians are Hugo Arteaga on bassoon, Alejandro Fariña on clarinet, Rodrigo López Paz on oboe and Artem Belogurov on fortepiano.
All young musicians who have made their mark in the music world. Mozart and Beethoven’s quintets are considered masterpieces from 1784 and 1796 respectively. The authentic performance of this music can be heard on Sunday, September 24, in the Jacobuskerk in Rolde.
