Early carnival party in ‘Sijbelbroek’ must connect villages: “It has already been three days”

Under the rivers, the carnival will only start next week, but this weekend it will be Sijbelbroek’s turn. Sijbelbroek? Indeed, that’s what Benningbroek is called this carnival weekend, a contraction of Sijbekarspel and Benningbroek. “To keep that connection with each other.”

The scratchy throats make no mistake about it: there was already a lot of partying in Sijbelbroek last week. “It has already been three days, this is day four,” says Mireille Reus, chairman of carnival association De Deursackers.

Because the carnival party in Benningbroek is held a week earlier than in other villages, more people come to the village and it is busier than usual. “We had three other associations visit us yesterday.”

Next week to Wognum

One of the dressed-up attendees says that he also has plans for next weekend. “Then I’ll go to Wognum,”

Before the party starts in Wognum, there are still a few activities on the program in Sijbelbroek today. “A parade, then we have a playback show for the children, they can sing or dance, and then build with our council until the late hours.”
