€220,000 subsidy for Waregem and vzw De Gaverbeek

Since the beginning of this year, the city and non-profit association De Gaverbeek have been discussing even more intensively to strengthen the thriving horse association by upgrading their grounds. The vision is the same as for all associations at the hippodrome, namely preparing the hippodrome and the Sport Vlaanderen Waregem site for the future. This was already done, among other things, by the construction of a renewed trotting track and new stables.

Vzw De Gaverbeek was the last association that urgently needed a renovation of their infrastructure. To receive a subsidy, the city and vzw De Gaverbeek submitted an investment file to Sport Vlaanderen at the end of March. That dossier has now been assessed positively across the board.

All weather track as the first realisation

The first steps to develop the vision for the future are the construction of a new all-weather track and lunging circle. The first steps have already been taken for this. The new track will replace the normal outdoor riding track, which is currently used by various equestrian associations. Thanks to the new track, training, competitions or events will no longer depend on the weather.

In a next phase, the red stables and the area around them will also be renovated and the permanent eventing obstacles will be repaired, so that the entire equestrian site is even better equipped to organize eventing competitions. It is the city’s ambition, with the support of Sport Vlaanderen, to complete the project within three years.
