Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band have been on a world tour since February 1, 2023. The pitfalls of touring with a large band and a correspondingly large crew in times of Covid-19 are now becoming apparent on the sixth date of their concert tour. On February 10, the 73-year-old and his colleagues played at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. On stage, however, three members of the usual cast were missing.
During the show, Springsteen paused to explain the slightly reduced stage presence. As he listed those who were absent, he gave the reason, after the names of singer/violinist Soozie Tyrells and guitarist Steven Van Zandts: “COVID!”. However, when it was his wife Patti Scialfa’s turn, he refrained from doing so. Nonetheless, he promised Dallas against the odds that he would offer a historic performance.
Even before the singer clarified the mystery, a fan had already contacted van Zandt independently via Twitter and asked for a reason for his absence. He confirmed that the pandemic situation in the US is still having an impact. However, he allayed emerging fan concerns by assuring that he was experiencing a mild course of the infection. As a reason for his happiness, he stated that he had been vaccinated several times. He is therefore looking to the near future with some optimism and hopes to be fit again on February 14 in Houston or on February 16 in Austin. The incident reaffirms Springsteen’s concerns expressed in 2020 that future tour fortunes could be affected by the pandemic. In fact, she already put a strain on her current trip, as it was actually planned for 2020.

Soozie Tyrell missed her second straight appearance. She was absent from Hollywood, Florida on February 7th. Nothing is known about her specific health status. Also for Scialfa it is not the first failure during the current tour. Already on February 3rd and 5th, in Atlanta, Georgia and Orlando, Florida, she was not on stage.
The tour is expected to continue for several months. After the group devoted themselves extensively to the North American continent until mid-April, they can be seen in Europe between the end of April and the end of July. Four performances are also planned in Germany.
