Contrary to what was planned, the Olympic Games for e-athletes will not take place in Saudi Arabia for the next twelve years.
A corresponding contract with the desert state has been terminated, according to a statement from the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Accordingly, you have “mutually decided to end the cooperation”.
The partnership was only confirmed last year around the Olympic Games in Paris. The premiere should take place in 2027. However, Saudi Arabia continues to host the E-Sports World Cup, where, among other things, shooter games such as Call of Duty are played.
“Both parties are pursuing their respective esports ambitions on separate paths,” the message continued. In addition, the IOC will develop a new concept and strive for a new partnership model. The goal remains to host the first games as soon as possible.
