Malware that spreads via e-mail is mostly hidden in pdf files that are sent as e-mail attachments. Information security company According to a report by Palo Alto Networks that file format is used in 66.6 percent of cases where e-mail attempts to infect the victim’s machine.

Attachments and scam emails also become more believable with the help of artificial intelligence.

– We have observed an explosive growth in scams that have used artificial intelligence, the report states.

Artificial intelligence can be used to produce credible-sounding and grammatically better text, which makes identifying harmful email content even more difficult.

Cybercriminals try to take advantage of, among other things, software that has not been updated, through which malware can be spread. In terms of data security, it is important to keep software updates up to date.

The report also warns companies, as the aim is to target increasing amounts of malware, especially to production networks. After 2021, cyber attacks targeting networks of production technology, such as automation technology, have increased by 27.5 percent.
