Dynamo Dresden needs a football miracle to return to the 2nd Bundesliga. A catastrophic second half in Meppen probably destroyed the black and yellow promotion dreams. Now you’re clutching at straws.
Did Dynamo Dresden destroy the season at SV Meppen within 13 minutes? Three goals conceded between the 69th and 82nd minute gave the Saxons a 1:3 deficit after their own lead, which even turned into a 1:4 in the final phase with the relegated team.
Dynamo still believes in the mini-chance
What does bankruptcy mean? Instead of being able to return to the 2nd Bundesliga on their own in the last game of the season against VfB Oldenburg on Saturday, the sixth-placed team from Dresden is now dependent on the help of other clubs. “Anything is possible in football, we saw that today. We still believe in our chance and will do everything to achieve it,” said captain Tim Knipping after the game.
The game in Meppen was crazy, because Dynamo stopped playing after the dominant first 45 minutes after the change of sides and had nothing to oppose the awakening fighting spirit of the Emslanders. A yellow-red card for Kyu-Hyun Park in the 68th minute meant the beginning of the end of Dresden glory. The equalizer came shortly after.
Desperate hope for the competition
“The sending off was the sticking point,” said Dynamo coach Markus Anfang and analyzed: “We lost the game in the first half.” In addition to the 1-0 through Ahmet Arslan’s penalty goal, the Dresdeners should have had a higher lead if Christian Conteh and Jonathan Meier had great chances. “It was like in previous games, we didn’t take our chances. And in the second half it was only a matter of time before we conceded,” said Knipping.
The beginning of the end – Dresden’s park collects the yellow-red card.
They now want to say goodbye to the fans at home against Oldenburg with a win. “It’s out of our hands, we can’t do much anymore. It’s bitter because we played an outstanding second half of the season. It hurts a lot. It will take a while for us to digest it,” said Beginning.
