Two days after missing promotion to the 3rd division, BFC coach Christian Benbennek (49) still finds it difficult to talk about the bitter hours on Saturday in Oldenburg.
His team had won the second leg of the promotion playoffs at Lower Saxony 2-1. But it wasn’t enough because the first leg in Berlin was lost 2-0.
“How I feel now is not important,” said the coach. “I don’t want to talk about that either. But of course a defeat like that hurts, even two days later.”

But for Benbennek, the failure to qualify is no reason not to extend his expiring contract with the Berliners: “Everything has been discussed, we agree. It’s just not signed yet because we wanted to play those two games first.”
For Benbennekwho has been in charge of the Berliners for three years, was already certain before the playoffs that he would extend his stay at BFC: “I told those in charge beforehand that I would like to stay,” said the soccer coach from Soltau (Lower Saxony).
He does not want to comment on the goal for the coming season. Benbennek: “We don’t yet know what the team will look like. That will be decided in the coming days and weeks. It would therefore be dubious to talk about goals now.”

But even if his team in the coming season Regionalliga NortheastIf you were to defend the title, you would have to qualify again in 2023, then against the champions from Bavaria. Only in 2024 would the champions of the Regionalliga Nordost rise directly, like Viktoria did last year.
“Thats all right. And the Bayern representative is guaranteed to be brutally strong,” said Benbennek. “But I’m not dealing with that just yet.”
