Spectacle in Show News: presenter Dyantha Brooks abruptly ended a live interview with Douwe Bob. “Let him get back to impregnating fans!”
The Shownieuws studio floor is overflowing this week juice: the day after the eruption of Mt. Moszkowicz, it is now Dyantha Brooks who provides spectacular television. She broke off an interview with Douwe Bob live on the channel last night, because of the Slow Down singer’s infamous rude attitude.
“You won’t talk until later!”
Douwe has been in the business for ten years and therefore stood in a sold-out Tivoli and Shownieuws treated him to a nice PR moment: they had arranged a live connection with the concert hall. TV makers always want to test such a connection, so that everything goes well on TV, and that is why they asked the singer to rehearse five minutes in advance.
What seems? Douwe was not pleased with that at all. This is of course possible, but there are different ways in which you can indicate this. He chose to bite Dyantha in a very nasty way that she was allowed to talk to him again just a few seconds before the live interview: “And you will only start talking again from ten seconds on!”
Strict and unkind
Dyantha does not allow herself to be treated this way, not even by a celebrity, and that is why she confronts him about it during the conversation. “We were just going to test the live connection with you, we were a minute and a half early and you said: ‘You can’t talk until I have ten seconds left.’ Are you always so strict and unkind when you come off stage?”
Douwe immediately reacts with irritation. “Oh no, I am especially unkind to the media, but I am very kind to fans. My fans always come first. (…) You ask me to stand here in front of the camera for five minutes. In the meantime, I can make a lot of people happy and you are not the first on my list. Those are the people who listen to my music.”
‘Not first on list’
Not every artist receives a mass medium visit at his anniversary party and apparently Douwe forgets for a moment that there is also a huge group of potential listeners in front of the TV. Story boss Guido den Aantrekker finds Douwe’s response (‘not first on my list’) quite haughty: “We will remember that, I think.”
In fact, my colleague Dyantha is completely done with it. “Well, Douwe, then I would say: go back to those people who are waiting behind you and then I wish you a lot of fun tonight.”
Douwe: “And I like you too. Good evening.”
Funny Face
Guido snaps at him at the very end: “And look into it further,” after which the singer pulls a rather surprised face.
Dyantha: “Yoohoo! Yes, we are really not going to pay attention to that.”
Guido: “Get out, get out!”
Dyantha: “We’re really not going to pay attention to that. I’ll take a sip of water, dude.”
Tension arc
Colleague Ronald Molendijk disagrees with the rest of the team. He believes that ‘artists’ can afford more than ordinary people: “What do you expect? That guy comes running from the stage, sweating and all, and he just says, ‘Guys, wait a minute, I’m way over here in my attention span.’”
No, that’s the problem. He does not ‘just’ indicate that, Dyantha emphasizes. She puts on a rude voice and imitates Douwe: “’And you won’t start talking again until ten seconds!’ This is normal part of the job?”
‘Not normal!’
Ronald thinks that Douwe is allowed to be rude because he sings songs. “You guys are so normal! You want everything to always be normal! Artists are not normal! Resign yourself to it.”
Dyantha: “Yes, but they are certainly not better, more important or have the right to be rude.”
Anouk Smulders: “Well, I really hope that he and those fans will be completely in the lights until three o’clock tonight.”
Dyantha: “I think he can impregnate three more tonight!”
Ten points for Dyantha.
