DXVE released the EP XXVII MELANCHOLY on Friday (December 9th), adding seven songs to its musical catalogue. With his new project, DXVE is said to be overcoming his depression and fighting his way out of the darkness that has surrounded him over the past year.
Although he released his first song “Treibsand” in June 2021, the man from Hamburg has already ticked off a few milestones in his career. In addition to features with German-speaking artists such as badchieff, Lotte and Disarstar, he has already worked with Migos, Don Toliver and Comethazine and The Driver Era. He also produced for the series “Twin Peaks” before he now wants to concentrate on his solo career.
“At 26, I was severely depressed and surrounded by a great deal of darkness. It took me a while to fight my way out of there. But that year was the prerequisite for everything that happened to my music in the following year – and that in turn had an effect on the last few months,” says the now 27-year-old about the process of creating the EP. The project features guitars and drums even more than previous songs because he “looks forward to these[m] Sounds often much more truthful,” I write, “and that was exactly what I wanted for the lyrics.”
“We fall 3km in the direction of nothing / maybe that has a chance later”, he begins on the intro song “3KM” and thus sets the tone for the other songs. On the seven tracks of the EP he deals with longing, the reasons for his melancholy and failed plans. “I think you can hear the freedom with which I chose the songs. I wasn’t concerned with whether they’re catchy or maybe work as a hit. I didn’t think about what to expect from me, I just listened to what the songs mean to me personally,” says DXVE about XXVII MELANCHOLY.
