DWS share: Another visit by investigators because of greenwashing allegations

The investment company DWS in Frankfurt received a visit from police and prosecutors on January 16th.

This was in connection with ongoing investigations into greenwashing allegations against Deutsche Bank’s asset management subsidiary, a company spokesman confirmed.

“From the beginning of the investigation, we have worked openly and transparently with all authorities at home and abroad. We have examined and made available a total of around 3 million documents – both upon request and proactively. We will continue to cooperate fully “We hope to be able to complete the investigation as quickly as possible. However, we are dependent on the authorities’ timing,” said the spokesman.

The Handelsblatt had previously learned about the visit from judicial circles and reported on it. According to the newspaper, a good 50 investigators were on duty.

It is the second time that the financial institution has been raided because of greenwashing allegations. At the end of May 2022, officials from the public prosecutor’s office, Bafin and the BKA had already searched the rooms of DWS and Deutsche Bank because of initial suspicion of investment fraud. DWS is said to have advertised funds as more “sustainable” and “greener” than they actually were. So far, the investigation has been directed against former DWS boss Asoka Wöhrmann and unknown persons.
