Dwingeloo swimming pool temporarily closed: ‘You want to prevent people from sinking into a sinkhole’

The swimming pool in Dwingeloo is temporarily closed due to a leak in the pool. An employee discovered the leak because a tile she was standing on sank a little. That was reason to take action. The problem was immediately recognized, because it also occurred last year.

“The risk is that a sinkhole will form and that someone will sink into it. That won’t be very far, but someone can get hurt and you don’t want that,” says Ronald Klaassen, board member of Stichting Beleefpark Dwingeloo.

The bath was partly pumped empty today to repair the leak. The water goes to the sewer, because the chlorine has already evaporated. The financial damage is limited, because most swimmers at the moment are season ticket holders.

Later this week, the pool will be refilled with 1.8 million liters of water from a natural source on the site.

The board is considering replacing the pipes on one side of the pool to prevent a recurrence.

Other facilities such as the bouncy castle and the climbing and scrambling forest are accessible. School swimming and lesson swimming is also canceled this week.
