The man in his fifties suffered an anaphylactic shock after the sting. According to the newspaper L’Est Républicain, medical workers were quickly on the scene, but attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful. The newspaper writes that the battle of Verdun “claimed another victim more than a hundred years later”.

In the First World War, the defense of Verdun became a matter of prestige for France. Almost all of 1916, the Germans fought bitterly for the place and in the surrounding area, with colossal losses on both sides. Today there are huge honorary cemeteries and a monument.
