The Dutch series New neighbours will receive an English version, The Couple Next Door. Millstreet Films, which made the original series, announced this on Wednesday. The series will air in the US on Starz and in the UK on Channel 4. The lead roles will be played by Eleanor Tomlinson (Poldark) and Sam Heughan (Outlander).
In the first season of New neighbours, based on the bestseller of the same name by Saskia Noort, shows how the couple Eva and Peter (Bracha van Doesburgh and Daan Schuurmans) come to live next to Rebecca and Steef (Katja Schuurman and Thijs Römer). They become friends, but a partner exchange has far-reaching consequences for that friendship. In the Netherlands, Nieuwe Buren got four seasons.
Filming has started in the United Kingdom and Belgium. The English-language series has six episodes. It is not the first remake of Nieuwe Buren, a French version was also made earlier. It is not yet clear whether The Couple Next Door will also be shown in the Netherlands.
