Dutch police keep an eye on the home of health minister Hugo de Jonge from a temporary observation post | Abroad

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) cannot tell whether the temporary cubicle has been placed because of last week’s incidents. “We have taken visible and invisible security measures in the street,” said a spokesperson, who does not want to say anything about the temporary security post.

The incidents caused consternation around De Jonge’s home last week. His address has been circulating on social media for some time. On Wednesday evening 15 December, a report of a suspicious package in the street was received via the National Emergency Center, which monitors the safety of persons enjoying personal protection. Police arrived on the scene and investigated the situation, but concluded that it was a false alarm.

The next evening, a 27-year-old Amsterdammer with a mask rang the doorbell at the house. He filmed live how he was going to ‘get a story’ at De Jonge’s home in Rotterdam. He announced through the intercom that he wanted to speak with the Minister of Health – the face of many corona measures. “That won’t work. Too bad,” replied a woman on the other end. The man from Amsterdam was released after his arrest, but was arrested again a day later in his hometown. This happened at the request of the Rotterdam police, who suspect him of threatening Hugo de Jonge.
