Since the invasion of Russian armed forces, the security situation across Ukraine has been unpredictable. The security situation is also deteriorating in Lviv, in the west of the country.

Minister Hoekstra of Foreign Affairs has therefore decided that it is no longer responsible for Ambassador Jennes de Mol and his team to remain in Ukraine. Earlier they had already moved from Kyiv to the Dutch support center in Lviv. Now they leave for Poland, where they continue their work.

Meeting point Lviv

After the support center has closed, the Netherlands itself can mean little to Dutch people in Ukraine. The Netherlands is looking at what is possible to offer alternatives in the short term, for example for people who need travel documents to leave the country.

At the moment there are no indications that Dutch people are detained in Ukraine due to a lack of travel documents.

The meeting point in Lviv was set up in mid-February to provide emergency aid to Dutch people who wanted to leave the country. In recent days, a dozen Dutch people have reported to Lviv.

No evacuation

There is no question of evacuation by the Dutch government, neither for the Dutch nor for local embassy employees.
