The Dutch fashion brand New Optimist will levy a deposit on the clothing it sells from next month. In this way, they think that not a single pair of trousers, T-shirts or jackets from their collection ends up in a landfill. They themselves call it ‘revolutionary’, but a Flemish expert in sustainability and fashion reacts sceptically. “It’s an interesting experiment, but I also think it’s a good marketing stunt.”
