Dutch farmers in Ukraine: ‘If we don’t feed the population anymore, they can’t fight’ | War Ukraine

From his farm in the middle of Ukraine, Kees Huizinga looks out over fields covered by a thin layer of snow. It’s quiet, a little ominous. Huizinga’s wife Emmeke and daughters aged 11 and 12 are safe with his parents-in-law in the Netherlands. They managed to escape the country via Romania after bombs were also dropped near their farm last Thursday. Above their heads they heard the roar of rockets, the windows rattled. In the distance, they saw smoke rising from the ammunition depots of the city of Uman. It is quiet this Thursday morning. But the situation remains tense, says Huizinga. ,,It is war. Violence could erupt at any moment.”
