Dutch environmental organization targets Ahold Delhaize | Abroad

Milieudefensie previously had success with a lawsuit against oil and gas company Shell. The organization will now call on Ahold Delhaize during its shareholders’ meeting on Wednesday to make more efforts for the climate, the FD reports.

Milieudefensie has drawn up a ‘hit list’ of 29 companies that, in its view, are doing too little to achieve the Paris climate goals. In addition to Ahold Delhaize, ABN AMRO, KLM and fertilizer manufacturer Yara are also on the list. The interest group gives the companies until April 15 to come up with tightened climate plans. The organization has already held talks with Ahold.

Last year, the interest group won a groundbreaking lawsuit against Shell. The judge ruled in May that Shell must have reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 45 percent by 2030 compared to 2019. That includes the CO2 emissions that Shell customers cause at the pump. Last month, Shell announced it would appeal the ruling, which the company says is “unfeasible” and “unreasonable”.
