A small part of the Dutch embassy staff, led by the ambassador, returned to Ukraine on 16 April. The diplomats will do their work from Lviv for the time being. But please note: the consular department of the Dutch embassy in Ukraine will remain closed.

Return of embassy personnel

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working step by step towards the safe return of a small part of the embassy staff to Ukraine. By first returning to Lviv in western Ukraine with a small staff, the embassy gets a good picture of the security situation there.

For the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the safety of its employees has the highest priority. For example, extra security measures have been taken for embassy staff in the event of, for example, rocket attacks. If it is safe enough, the embassy will eventually return to Kyiv.

Why are the embassy staff returning now?

A diplomatic post is of great value for contact with the Ukrainian government. Some of the government representatives are in Lviv. Embassies of other EU countries are also returning. It is important that the Netherlands continues to cooperate with all these countries; also from Ukraine.
