Dutch clubs pull the plug from BeNeLiga | Dutch football

Ajax, PSV, Feyenoord, FC Utrecht, Vitesse and AZ Alkmaar established yesterday that there is currently insufficient support from the Dutch professional clubs to set up the BeNeLiga.

In recent months, serious progress had been made on a BeNeLiga with a ‘split season model’. A Dutch-Belgian delegation had a constructive meeting about this at the beginning of March with the top of UEFA, led by chairman Aleksander Ceferin. The Dutch top clubs are now stopping the project because the necessary support is currently lacking. The fact that Dutch club football is currently flourishing, while Belgian club football is having a harder time, undoubtedly plays a role in this.

“Dutch football is now continuing to refine the business plan as one of the next steps towards realizing the NL League,” the Eredivisie CV said in a statement.

The Pro League takes note of the Dutch position and wants to take concrete steps in the coming months to help Belgian club football move forward again. Lorin Parys, who will start his mandate as new CEO tomorrow, and his team want to convince Belgian clubs in the coming period that there is a momentum here for a better and more modern Belgian top football.
