Dutch car brand launches ‘ultimate summer car’ | Car

Car enthusiasts may know the design studio from the 2008 Savage Rivale Roadyacht GTS. That was a four-seat supercar with steel folding roof, Lamborghini-esque lines and the 6.2-liter V8 engine from the Chevrolet Corvette. It was the creation of the Dutch Savage Rivale, a design studio led by Emile Pop and Justin de Boer.

Unfortunately, it soon became quite quiet around The Roadyacht GTS, and it only made the news again in 2016 when the Japanese GLM wanted to take the car into production. Not long after, the car was presented as the GLM G4, where according to car week eventually about a thousand copies were built. Savage Rivale meanwhile shifted his focus to the maritime sector, but is now once again plunging into the automotive industry. With this Coastrunner EV, the company has made a comeback in the car world.

According to Savage Rivale co-founder Emile Pop, development of the Coastrunner EV began about three years ago. Again, it is a car for a niche market, where people seem to be focusing on the jet set again. The Coastrunner EV is somewhat reminiscent of the Roadyacht GTS from the front, but otherwise it is a completely different car, with a largely open body and a fabric hood.

It is actually a contemporary interpretation of the Citroën Méhari, but with an electric powertrain. Despite the many batteries on board, the Coastrunner EV weighs only 800 kilos, offers space for four adults and should be able to travel about 180 kilometers with a full battery. The top speed is 120 kilometers per hour, sufficient to be able to handle the Coastrunner EV on or just next to the beach also on the highway.

There are no more specifications at the moment, but Pop says that despite the simplistic design, the finish is very high-quality. According to him, production of the first twenty copies has already started and six have already been sold. Hopefully, according to the designers, we’ll see the cars soon in jet-set places like Ibiza, Monaco, Saint-Tropez and Marbella.
