Forerunners of the Dutch bank ABN AMRO were largely involved in the slave trade. According to historians, a banking house that merged into the major bank was a pivot in the slavery economy of the Caribbean in the eighteenth century. ABN AMRO now offers “heartfelt apologies” for its historic involvement in slavery.
