For four years, between 2019 and the end of May 2023, the suspect offered his babysitting services via Facebook Marktplaats. According to the police, he did this at an “attractive rate” and probably radiated confidence to the parents by posting photos of him in a police uniform.
Although the man posed in uniform, he was never employed by the police. “He was photographed in the uniform because he took security training and was allowed to shadow the police for a few days,” said the police.
The twenty-something was arrested in May, after which computer equipment was seized during a house search. Images were found on the computer of child abuse in one of the families where he was the babysitter. In addition, the police also found other child porn and even animal porn on the hard drive.
The investigation is still ongoing and the eleven affected families in five Dutch provinces have been informed.
A second man has also been arrested in the investigation. It concerns a 38-year-old man from the Dutch municipality of Alkmaar. The main suspect allegedly forwarded the homemade images of the child abuse to the thirty-something.
The 24-year-old man must appear in court in Haarlem on September 4. The second suspect was already in court on August 21. The court then decided that the thirty-year-old should remain in prison a little longer. Both the lawyer of the 24-year-old and the 38-year-old man do not wish to comment substantively.
