Dutch airspace closed to Russian aircraft

The Netherlands has closed its airspace to all Russian aircraft. This means that flights are no longer welcome from the Russian airlines Aeroflot and Air Brigde Cargo, both of which fly regularly to and from Schiphol. Yesterday KLM decided to stop flights to and over Russia.

KLM has also stopped offering flights in partnership with Aeroflot. The two are both part of the Skyteam alliance of a total of 19 airlines. For the time being, passengers can no longer book an Aeroflot flight to ten Russian destinations via KLM.

Device stranded

This afternoon, the last regular Aeroflot flight departed from Schiphol with a major detour to Moscow. Much of Europe had already closed its airspace to Russian air traffic.

An Aeroflot Airbus A320 is therefore also stranded at Schiphol. That aircraft was on its way to Dusseldorf, but the German government would no longer allow it to leave. It is not known when or if the Airbus will fly back to Moscow.
