Düsseldorfer EG wins against Iserlohn

In the corona-plagued German Ice Hockey League, the Düsseldorfer EG has secured its first success after the Olympic break.

National player Marco Nowak made it 3:2 (1:1, 0:0, 1:1, 1:0) after extra time against the Iserlohn Roosters. The defender scored after just 16 seconds in overtime. DEG thus achieved an important victory in the battle for the playoff spots. It was just one of three duels on Friday night.

Meanwhile, EHC Red Bull Munich extended its winning streak. Coach Don Jackson’s team defeated the Fischtown Pinguins from Bremerhaven 1-0 (0-0, 1-0, 0-0). Thanks to Frank Mauer’s goal in the middle third, the Munich team achieved their fifth success in a row. The Grizzlys Wolfsburg clearly lost to the Straubing Tigers 0:4 (0:1, 0:1, 0:2) and dropped from second behind the Adler Mannheim to third place in the table.

Many teams currently unplayable

The league has recently canceled numerous games due to Corona cases, and the schedule is becoming increasingly confused. The Bietigheim Steelers also announced on Friday that the team had to be quarantined. Three Steelers matches were initially canceled.

In addition to Bietigheim, Berlin, Augsburg, Schwenningen and Nuremberg are currently significantly affected by the corona virus. Sunday has also been significantly thinned out with only three appointments. A full day of play usually includes seven games.

Before the start of the season, the league had agreed that a point coefficient would also decide on the playoff ranks and relegation if not all duels could be played.
