“Our aim is to excel”said sports director Niki Mondt on Tuesday at the presentation of the new head coach. “We want to give ourselves the opportunity to basically win every game”, said the 54-year-old Swede Hansson. He received a two-year contract as the successor to Harold Kreis, who switched to the Schwenninger Wilds Wings.
Hansson became a World Cup and Olympic champion as a player
Hansson once played in the DEL together with Mondt and his two future assistant coaches Thomas Dolak and Daniel Kreutzer at the Kassel Huskies. Between 1996 and 2001 he made 233 DEL appearances (57 goals, 78 assists). With the Swedish national team, the winger won the 1992 World Cup and 1994 gold at the Olympic Games.
Hansson ended his playing career in 2003 at Rögle BK in Sweden. In the following years he worked there as managing director, assistant trainer and head coach. The 54-year-old switched to the Swiss second division club for the 2019/20 season EV Zug, where he has been in recent years as “Director of Player Development” and acted as head coach.
