Dusan Vlahovic has joined Juventus from AC Fiorentina for €70m. Pantaleo Corvino, who once lured the Serbian top striker into Serie A, has now revealed that the 22-year-old was about to switch to BVB.
Dusan Vlahovic is definitely not making any friends in Florence with his move to Juventus Turin, but AC Fiorentina should still be happy with the windfall of around 70 million euros.
Now Pantaleo Corvino spoke up. The 72-year-old, who is currently technical director at Italian second division club US Lecce, discovered the striker and revealed interesting details about the commitment at the time to the “Gazetta dello Sport”. Vlahovic is said to have been about to switch to BVB.
The 22-year-old Serb, who has already scored 17 goals in Serie A this season, came to Fiorentina from Partizan Belgrade for almost two million euros in the summer of 2018.
“When I bought him I saw the potential in him to be a great player,” Corvino enthused. He prevailed against strong competition to lure Vlahovic to Florence. “He was about to move to Borussia Dortmund at the time,” he revealed several years later, adding: “Arsenal, Juventus and Atalanta also wanted him.”
Vlahovic decided against BVB and for Fiorentina
In order to win the poker for Vlahovic, the former manager of Fiorentina traveled to Belgrade and took the player and his family to Italy to convince everyone involved of the move. However, the Italian did not only receive praise for his efforts. Back then, Vlahovic got the last place in the squad before the limit for foreign players was reached. Only later did fans and those responsible realize how good the deal really was.
BVB has been associated with Vlahovic in recent months, but due to the financial dimensions of this transfer, the black and yellow had no chance in the race for the center forward. According to media reports, the 22-year-old should have succeeded Haaland in the summer. Nothing will come of it now.
