Durán Barba: “Mauricio Macri is competitive”

Jaime Duran Beard serve the Zoom from Mexico. It is one of his favorite countries, after his native Ecuador and Argentina that conquered him and from which he has a DNI that proves that he is a national. The guru, brain of the presidential triumph of Mauricio Macri in 2015, is on tour premiering her brand-new book, “The new society”, by Editorial Debate, a text that analyzes the changes in Western society in recent decades, after the emergence of the internet and the growth of the feminist movement. She also talks about politics there, as she does in this interview.

News: How do you see the PRO today?
Jaime Duran Beard: The PRO was born as a very alternative thing and very much from this new world, which is distinguished, among other things, by its mischief. But then there was a process that has to do with power. Hubris syndrome is real: power makes you serious.

News: How would the PRO do to recover that freshness?
Duran Beard: It is difficult to recover. Do not forget that they were in power for more than 12 years in the City and later in the National Government. It can be recovered, but we must be aware of the danger of the Hubris and climb it. You have to say “well, let’s stop being so starchy”.

News: Macri has been having new searches. Today she is seen vindicating Menem, taking a photo with Trump.
Duran Beard: I like Macri more photographing himself with anonymous people. Not Trump, not Menem. I like the one who took pictures with the one who sold pancakes on the road and the one he went to visit when he was President. That was the really innovative Macri.

News: Has Macri lost touch with the new policy?
Duran Beard: That aspect of Macri was weakened, but he has a mischievous nature. He has always been a person doing things that would make my grandmother angry, while other PRO and political leaders have not. Putting on the suit, the tie, being very serious, not saying bad words, that was never worth a radish to Macri. He was always a casual guy. Others take care of themselves in everything, in their private life too: not to have feelings, you don’t have to play pranks, you have to be boring. That is the old politician that no one votes for.

News: Are you still a competitive candidate?
Duran Beard: You are in a position to be a competitive candidate. The first problem to be a competitive candidate is to be known. News: But many know him and do not want him. Durán Barba: Yes. But he has already taken the first step. Nobody knows some of today’s Argentine presidential candidates. Mauricio could reverse the negative image he has.
