Duplantis and McLaughlin-Levrone honored as track and field athletes of the year

Sweden’s pole vault star Armand Duplantis and hurdler Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone from the USA are the world athletes of the year 2022. This was announced by the world association World Athletics on Monday evening.

Duplantis, who had already become world athlete of the year in 2020, had won the title at the World Championships in Eugene with the world record height of 6.21 m.

In 2022 McLaughlin-Levrone increased her world record over 400 m hurdles by 0.78 seconds and won the title at the World Championships in an incredible 50.68 seconds.

German athletes did not make it into the final selection. In the election, held for the first time in 1988, Katrin Krabbe (1991) and Heike Henkel (1992) were the only Germans to have prevailed.
