‘Duncan Laurence is not nice, not nice and not accessible’

Just as Duncan Laurence hopes to boost his image with his participation in Best Singers, Jan Uriot comes around the corner with his axe. “Not nice and not nice!”

It is evident that Duncan Laurence is a tremendous diva. Scores a hit once and has fancied himself a kind of Madonna ever since. “Dutch?! What is that? I only speak English!” One problem: star appeal is not appreciated in our country. And the show media are already completely done with him. The result? Duncan has become something of a pariah.

Not nice

Pariah or not: he is currently in Best Singers. Last week, 29-year-old Duncan was the very first performing artist of this season and presto, the Waterlanders arrived after fifteen seconds. Are we witnessing the dent in his image live here? Or does he still have a long way to go?

Well, the latter, if it were up to Jan Uriot (78). The fake star reporter from Privé is razing the singer to the ground this week New Revu: “He is not accessible, neither nice nor nice and focuses mainly on his international success.”

Old sore

There is some old pain, Jan admits. “We had an argument when I wrote that he was homosexual and he made a big deal out of it. “I’m bisexual,” he shouted, digging his heels into the sand. He is now married to a gentleman.”

According to him, that conflict has already been resolved. “In the spring I attended his concert in the Zonnehuis, where I stood right in front of the stage. I received a friendly nod there, so I believe things are going well between us again.”

‘Done with him’

Well, until this interview with Nieuwe Revu. Jan appears to be completely fed up with Duncan again. “Now he has delivered beautiful new music, but the Netherlands is not really enthusiastic about it yet. In fact, after that initial joy in 2019, we are a bit done with that boy.”

How can Duncan save the day? “I would like to advise him to respond to journalists in a more normal and human way and to leave out those English words and sudden American accent. Then things will probably turn out fine again. The press here wants to, but they have to move along a bit.”
