Striker Marvin Ducksch was very angry about Werder Bremen’s 2-1 defeat at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim.
“There were huge things there,” said the 29-year-old national player about the guests’ chances in the Bundesliga. Ducksch also grumbled about his substitution by his coach Ole Werner in the 64th minute: “I think I played well today. The coach had a different idea.”
Head coach Werner said of Ducksch’s performance: “My impression is that he lacked fortune here and there in the finish.” But he has no reason to “doubt Marvin.” In front of 25,000 spectators in Sinsheim, Bremen missed the equalizer shortly before the final whistle in an entertaining game: former Hoffenheim substitute Leonardo Bittencourt shot just wide of the goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
New goalscorer Maximilian Beier scored twice for Hoffenheim (8th and 44th minute). Skelly Alvero’s late goal (90+2) wasn’t enough for Werder. “It was a mix of bad luck and I don’t know what,” said Ducksch. “We weren’t even the worse team.” Coach Werner also said: “In terms of performance, it wasn’t a bad away game. We perhaps even had more chances to score than we could have expected before the game.”
