“I have big goals with the club. If it doesn’t work out this year, then so be it. I didn’t sign for three years for nothing. If I had planned to leave in the summer, I would have signed for a year,” the paper quotes the center forward, who has played 1,779 minutes in 20 appearances. Born in Dortmund, he switched to Werder from Hanover at the end of August for a fee of 3.5 million euros. In his career, the north Germans should be the fourth team he has played for in the Bundesliga after Dortmund, Paderborn and Düsseldorf.

“It is the goal of every individual to play in the Bundesliga, including mine. But I don’t want to prove anything to anyone, I don’t have to. So far I haven’t been able to show my potential in the top flight. But maybe there is still a chance…”, says Ducksch. Except for the short stint at FC St. Pauli (10 games/1 goal), he was always among the top players in the 2nd Bundesliga for both Hannover 96 (34 games/15 goals) and Holstein Kiel (54 games/24 goals). belongs to top scorers – in 31 Bundesliga appearances he only scored twice.

While Ducksch’s working paper in Bremen is dated until 2024, seven Werder contracts expire at the end of the season, including those of top performers such as captain Ömer Toprak, keeper Jiri Pavlenka and central defender Milos Veljkovic. In order to keep Werder as competitive as possible in the event of promotion in the coming year, Ducksch explained to “Bild” his efforts to convince the players of an extension:

“I told everyone they had to stay. But what they do with it is unfortunately not in my hands.”
