Ducati has just unveiled the mighty Multistrada V4 Rally, the new incarnation of its maxi-enduro explicitly aimed at motorcyclists who intend to reach the most inaccessible destinations. The Rally variant is immediately positioned at the top of the Multistrada V4 range by virtue of a “stellar” level of equipment and technological equipment aimed at maximum ease both on the road and on more rugged terrain. True to its name, the Multistrada V4 Rally has a particular predilection for off-road, emphasized by a top suspension department, a dedicated riding mode, lightened spoke wheels and a significantly larger fuel tank than the other members of the series. However, its engine remains the reliable 1,158 cc V4 Granturismo that drives the other Multistrada, an accredited unit of 170 hp at 10,750 rpm and 121 Nm of torque at 8,750 rpm, as well as being the first Ducati engine in four decades to present itself. devoid of the traditional desmodromic distribution. The same goes for the frame and swingarm, that is the compact aluminum monocoque, which uses the engine as a load-bearing element, and the aluminum double-sided arm, components that characterize the already known versions of the model.

Modeled in the name of comfort

Working on an already solid basis such as that offered by the current Multistrada V4, the Ducati designers have aimed to maximize the level of comfort for the rider without neglecting any passenger. This is due to immediately visible changes such as the extended tail with the rear luggage attachments, the new aerodynamic deflectors on the front and the new windscreen, 40 mm higher and 20 mm wider. The semi-active suspensions are similar to those of the other models, including the precious 50 mm Marzocchi inverted fork, but have an increased travel to 200 mm which consequently increase the ground clearance by 10 mm. The 19 “tubeless spoked rims at the front and 17” at the rear, punctually redesigned and lightened, are the only option offered as standard, while the engine, in its defense, benefits from unprecedented suitably reinforced protections. Another distinctive element of the Rally version is its new aluminum tank with a capacity of 30 liters, or eight liters more than the other Multistrada V4s in the range, more generous, but equally well integrated into the sleek lines of the model. This tank allows the Rally to tackle considerably longer distances than its sisters, but there is another important innovation specially developed by Borgo Panigale to extend the autonomy of its latest jewel.

The debut of extended deactivation

With the new Multistrada V4, Ducati introduces a new system called “extended deactivation”, a technical solution never seen before in the world of two wheels. While the other Multistrada V4s deactivate the two rear cylinders when the bike is idle, for the Rally this function extends to other driving conditions, reducing fuel consumption and consequently emissions. In practice, this “deactivation” of the rear bank also occurs in motion upon the occurrence of certain conditions, with the control unit ready to reactivate its combustion when speed increases or when the accelerator requires more power. Understandably, the system never works in first gear, however. According to Ducati, the “extended deactivation” does not affect the character and performance of the engine and is in any case functional, at different calibrations, with all the Riding Modes, another department where this bike is the bearer of an important innovation.

a driving mode dedicated to off-road

Like the other Multistrada V4s, the Rally also has four driving modes Sport, Touring, Urban and Enduro, but the latter has been implemented with the introduction of a new dedicated Power Mode that limits the power to 114 Hp to produce a more dynamic and direct response. In this context, the suspension is prepared for off-road driving, the traction control drops to the first level and the anti-wheelie system is deactivated. The ABS, which coordinates the impeccable Brembo braking system with 330 mm discs at the front and 265 mm discs at the rear, is instead deactivated on the rear wheel alone, deliberately excluding the cornering and rear lift detection functions for a greater efficiency on the most insidious surfaces.

Sophisticated technology

Naturally, the Multistrada V4 Rally retains much of the advanced electronic equipment of the versions already present in the price list. This also includes adaptive Cruise Control, the Blind Spot Detection system that detects the presence of vehicles in the blind spots of the mirrors, the Ducati Cornering Lights that illuminate the inside of the roadway when cornering and the Autoleveling function, designed to always ensure a constant attitude. regardless of the presence or absence of passengers and luggage. To facilitate maneuvers with a passenger on board, the Multistrada V4 Rally also boasts the Minimum Preload functions, which lowers the bike by electronically resetting the preload of the mono, and Easy Lift, which acts on the suspensions to facilitate raising from the side stand. The convenient center stand is still part of the standard equipment. The 6.5 “color Tft instrumentation with which to coordinate all this is controlled with the joystick on the left block and can act as a navigator using Ducati Connect, the app that can also manage calls and listening to music via intercom.

arriving in early 2023

The new Multistrada V4 Rally will be available in Ducati dealerships starting from February 2023 in three trim levels: the standard Adventure Radarthe Adventure Travel & Radar with aluminum side cases, heated grips and saddle, and the Full Adventure which adds to the whole an Akrapovic approved silencer together with a carbon fiber front fender. However, the Bolognese company has provided a vast assortment of accessories for the model ranging from different options for saddle, suitcases and windshields, to additional LED spotlights up to various parts made of carbon fiber or machined from solid. And the appeal is not lacking even a dedicated technical clothing line. There will be two colors initially planned for the Multistrada V4 Rally: the ultra-classic Ducati Red and the more exotic Brushed Aluminum & Matt Black with the intriguing brushed aluminum tank. The price is currently being defined, but it will certainly include the four-year guarantee 4 | Ever Ducati already proposed for the other variants and including roadside assistance throughout continental Europe.
