The pearl of the Adriatic has said enough. Victim of his own success dubrovnik city has made a drastic and somewhat peculiar decision: rolling luggage cannot be used throughout the city by the deafening sounds they produce in the streets of the city center.
It is not surprising in a city that has tripled its number of visitors after being the setting in which a good part of the acclaimed Game of Thrones series was filmed, in which it embodied the city of King’s Landing and turning it, even more so, into one of the most sought-after cities in Croatia.
The measure is effective immediately: as of this summer, tourists are ordered to carry their suitcases by hand instead of rolling them through the cobbled streets, especially in the center. The measure will be tightened more from Novemberwhen they will enable mandatory luggage lockers: these will be used to store the luggage of travelers to whom they will be prohibited from moving around the city center with any suitcase.
The Croatian newspaper Jutanji List has explained that “travellers will deposit their suitcases in the lockers and they will be taken by the town hall, upon payment, to the address where they are staying.” Although they warn that this is only the beginning, it is considered ultimate goal to create a logistics center from the airport whereby all luggage will be delivered directly to the places of residence.

This measure, which may surprise clueless travelers, is part of a set of regulations implemented for several years. as part of the program called “Respect the city”. This, which is aimed solely at tourists, aims to make life easier for the city’s inhabitants so that their quality of life does not worsen as a result of tourism that, at times, can be massive.
Other measures already approved have been to prohibit walking animals without a leash, leaving waste of any kind in the middle of the street, climbing monuments or walking without a shirt through the center of the city.
