Hamburg (dpa) – The German Tennis Association wants to bind Angelique Kerber to the association if possible after the end of her career.
“We should definitely involve them if we have the chance,” said DTB President Dietloff von Arnim in an interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung” with a view to Kerber and veteran Philipp Kohlschreiber. “Angie and Philipp know what it means to be a professional. They always exemplify the expectations a player has to have of themselves,” said von Arnim. “We will certainly approach both of them after the end of their careers.”
Kerber has not yet given a date for the end of her career. The three-time Grand Slam tournament winner is already co-organizer of the lawn tournament in Bad Homburg, so the 34-year-old has set the course for the time after her active career. It cannot be ruled out that Kerber will play her last season.
Kohlschreiber has indicated that this is his final year on the tour. At the ATP tournament in Munich, the 38-year-old had recently signaled his willingness to work with talented people in the future.
