DSV jumpers are working on their recipe for success in Lillehammer

After the start of the World Cup in Lillehammer, the German ski jumpers are in the 1994 Olympic venue to train for the upcoming competitions. But it’s not just training on the ski jump that’s important, as Luisa Görlich reports in her column for sport.de from Norway.

The cinnamon rolls are finally ready: The World Cup team of the German women’s national ski jumping team decided to stay a few days longer after the first World Cup in Norway in order to take advantage of the excellent snow conditions for training. However, we are not the only ones who had this idea and so we share the ski jumping facility with various nations.

That’s why we sometimes have longer periods of rest and free time and we use them to bake. In a lengthy process of finding the sweet treats to be created, long Bethmannen and jam-filled pyramid cookies topped the favor list, before the (cinnamon) snails, which are otherwise slower in everyday life, were able to claim victory in the home straight, in a sprint, so to speak.

After evaluating all the cinnamon roll recipes available online, we agreed on the template for the Allgäu version and got to work. The best teamwork resulted in really tasty baked goods that were quickly eaten during the team Secret Santa event.

Secret Santa was also handled in a grassroots democratic and constructive manner, which led to two variants of Secret Santa. A version of the normal Secret Santa was preceded by the so-called Scrap Secret Santa, which is often a lot of fun as you find your teammates with useless household items that you don’t use yourself.

The first two competitions are behind us and I am very happy with my debut in Lillehammer. I came 21st on the normal hill and came 14th on the large hill, which I was very happy with. I got into flying particularly well on the large hill and the top ten wasn’t far away.

We now fill the days with sport, fun and excitement and give ourselves the necessary warmth in the cold Lillehammer. At the ski jump we focus on little things that can usually have a big impact. In the team house we play and bake.

Everyone in the team is already thinking about the next World Cup, which will take place for the first time for us women on the large hill in Engelberg. But before we travel to Switzerland, we plan to spend a few days recuperating and relaxing in Oberstdorf upon our return.

I’m going to take advantage of this with long walks with my friend and dog in a beautiful snowy landscape, because after that we’ll be taking part in our World Cups in quick succession, before the highlight is half a Four Hills Tournament in Oberstdorf and Garmisch.

But before we start the return flight, we will go to the stove again; those at home also want to know whether we can bake cinnamon rolls.

Best regards

Luisa Gorlich
