DSV is looking for a new national water polo coach

The German Swimming Association is looking for a new national coach for the water polo players. As the DSV announced on Wednesday, coach Petar Porobic ended his job after a year at “his own request”.

The 65-year-old from Montenegro followed long-time national coach Hagen Stamm in October 2021 and was in charge of the DSV selection this year at the World Cup in Budapest and the European Championship in Rome.

“We thank Petar Porobic for his commitment, in this one year he has always given his all for the national team,” said DSV competitive sports director Christian Hansmann: “With his great water polo expertise, he was able to teach our younger players a lot , from which they will continue to benefit in the future.”

The water polo players had experienced a preliminary round debacle at the European Championships in Italy. 13th place meant the worst performance by a German team in the history of the European Championships.

The Porobic team also came 13th at the World Championships in Hungary. Qualifying for Euro 2024 in Tel Aviv begins in June 2023.
