The hellish ride began after the 43-year-old man – who later admitted to having “had a few drinks” – came up with the crazy plan to climb onto the undercarriage of a truck in Nambucca Heads for a 50-kilometre journey to Coffs Harbour, in the north of the state of New South Wales. In any case, a dangerous and uncomfortable ride of about half an hour.
But instead of Coffs Harbour, the Australian ended up all the way in the coastal city of Gold Coast, in Queensland state, the Australian news agency ‘AAP’ reported on Wednesday, citing the police.
The man said he had assumed that he would be able to jump from the truck at a red traffic light on the Pacific Highway. But the truck driver actually had green everywhere and was therefore able to drive to his destination in one go.
It was only after four hours that the colossus came to a stop for the first time and the driver, to his great surprise, saw how the stowaway fell from the undercarriage. The police officers who were summoned were also stunned when they heard that the unfortunate man had spent the entire journey clinging to the chassis.
The latter stated that he was quite stressed after his long and uncomfortable journey, as can be seen in images shared by the police. If only that great drunken idea had turned out completely differently!
His ride was not free in the end, because he was fined 288 Australian dollars (about 173 euros). Ultimately, the Australian was taken by police to Coomera station, where he could catch the train back.
