The couple was good friends with Hawkins and received a message from the drummer on Thursday evening – he died a day later. The audio clip can be heard on Farrell’s Instagram page, who recorded a video message: “Take care of yourself and each other. Then I’ll take care of myself,” said Hawkins. “And I’ll see you in São Paulo. I love, love, love you. Sleep well.”
After Hawkin’s death was announced, the Foo Fighters canceled their concert in São Paulo – scheduled for last Sunday. The show on Sunday, during the Brazilian edition of the Lollapalooza festival, would be the last performance of the American rock band’s tour.
The Foo Fighters announced on Saturday morning, Dutch time, that Hawkins (50) has passed away. A cause of death has not been disclosed. Colombian researchers do report that traces of ten different substances have been found, including THC (the active ingredient in marijuana), painkillers and antidepressants. It was not disclosed whether the substances found led to his death.
