Def Leppard, including their drummer Rick Allen, are currently touring with Mötley Crüe. It is now known that Allen was attacked on Monday evening, March 13, outside the Fort Lauderdale hotel where he was staying. Together with a woman who wanted to help him.
Rick Allen and a woman mugged: everything that is known so far
According to reports from the US news outlet 7 News Miami, Def Leppard performed at a Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood on the evening of March 12. This came as part of their ongoing headlining tour with Mötley Crüe.
The incident is said to have happened in the driveway of the Four Seasons Hotel as Allen went outside to smoke a cigarette. As “7 News” writes, the medium has the police report. It describes what happened next:
Max Edward Hartley, a 19-year-old from Ohio, allegedly ran at full speed towards the 59-year-old drummer and hit him so hard “he fell backwards”. The report went on to say: “As a result of [Hartleys] actions struck [Allen] hit his head on the ground and hurt himself”.
A woman was also injured, and the attacker has now been arrested
At that time, a woman ran out of the house, wanting to rush to Allen’s aid. She, too, was allegedly punched and pushed to the ground by Hartley. The woman then tried to get back to the hotel, but was pulled outside by her hair. Hartley then fled and was later arrested when he vandalized cars in a nearby parking garage.
The accusation
Hartley was charged with two counts of assault, four counts of criminal mischief and molestation of an elderly or disabled adult. (Allen lost his left arm in a car accident in 1984). The 19-year-old was released from prison on bail earlier Tuesday.
Def Leppard and Mötley Crüe are reportedly resuming their tour. Their next gig is scheduled for May 22nd in Sheffield, England.
