Drug user climbs into tower crane and plays with emergency services’ feet for nearly three hours | Roeselare

It was just after half past one when the emergency services received a report from bystanders that someone had climbed into the tower crane. It is located on the Botermarkt, in the construction zone for the construction of the new town hall. Police, fire brigade, ambulance and a MUG team rushed to the scene. Negotiations with the man in question yielded nothing. That is why the RED team of the fire brigade was also asked. This consists of people who specialize in rescues at height and depth.

The surprise of the police and emergency workers was great when, however, a 38-year-old man from Roeselare suddenly also climbed into the crane. He tried to talk into his friend, but soon saw the futility of his action. The resident of Roeselare, who turned out to be under the influence of alcohol, descended again and was administratively arrested.

The resident of Staden remained in the crane, but was convinced to come down just after 3 hours. Just as he set foot on the ground, however, he changed his mind and tried to climb the man back up. The firefighters of the RED team were able to stop him. The Stadenaar, who had used drugs, was transferred to the AZ Delta.
