A drug lab was busted in a country house on a dead-end road between Fort and Veeningen on the night of Friday to Saturday. Several local residents heard the police conducting a major raid.
“Around four o’clock I heard all kinds of cars driving,” says a local resident. “At first I thought there was a party. But in the morning it turned out to be something completely different.” In the fairly remote house, at least two hundred meters from the road between Veeningen and Fort, the police found a drug lab. Goods and barrels containing chemicals needed to make synthetic drugs were found in one room.
Five people arrested
Four people were arrested in the area: a 61-year-old man from Amsterdam, a 48-year-old woman from the municipality of De Wolden and two men aged 30 and 26 with no fixed abode. Later, an 18-year-old man from Utrecht was also arrested elsewhere in the country.
The five suspects are in restraints and are not allowed to have contact with the outside world. An investigation is being conducted into whether there is a connection between this arrest and the discovery of the drug lab, the police said.
‘Never noticed anything’
The police had information that drugs might be produced in the building. According to a neighbor, a couple from Amsterdam, with a child, had lived in the house for less than two years, according to a neighbor. “We had contact with them occasionally. Nice people, they always wave friendly.”
He is shocked by the raid. “You sometimes read it in the newspaper. But I had no idea that it would be here. I never noticed or smelled anything.” Another neighbor is not inclined to speak out. “It doesn’t make you happy.”
Bed and breakfast
A company in the field of health and lifestyle is registered at the address. The company is run by a 48 year old woman. According to a neighbor, the couple also runs a bed and breakfast.
After the raid, the police closed the access roads to the house due to a possible explosion hazard. After the National Dismantling Facility (LFO) has investigated and dismantled the lab, the police will continue with the investigation.
