Driver dies in car that catches fire after crash

Just after three o’clock, a passenger car drove off the road near Heernisstraat and crashed head-on into a tree. The impact left the vehicle on fire and in the middle of the road. The driver was unable to get out of the vehicle and died in the car, which was almost completely burned out. The Leopoldsvaart-Noord was closed for a while due to the accident. A traffic expert investigated the circumstances of the accident on site. Initial findings indicate that no other vehicles were involved. The public prosecutor’s office does not yet want to say anything about the identity of the victim.
