The accident happened on Friday around 2 p.m. near the intersection of Oudenaardsesteenweg with Kleinestraat and Wannegemdorp. A team from the Kruisem fire station rushed to the scene to free the driver from the wrecked car and placed a tent. The Medical Urgency Group of the General Hospital Oudenaarde tried to resuscitate the victim, but all help came too late. The driver died on the spot. The victim is a 55-year-old man from Kruisem.
Road closed
The cause of the accident is still unclear. Because no other vehicles were involved, the East Flanders public prosecutor’s office did not send a traffic expert to the scene. Police and fire brigade closed Oudenaardsesteenweg in both directions to all traffic for hours.
